University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Eaton Oncology & Infusion Center

University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Eaton is an accredited, 25-licensed-bed critical access hospital that, every year, supports:

• More than 17,000 emergency department visits
• More than 2,100 surgeries
• Nearly 50,000 primary care visits

Still, the vast majority of patients in this area must travel to UM Health-Sparrow Lansing for more specialized procedures. While this facility offers invaluable resources to numerous communities, expansions and improvements will further extend our ability to directly serve patients of all ages in a broader geographic range, reducing the need for extensive travel and other barriers to access.

Currently, UM Health-Sparrow Eaton offers a wide range of services, including an emergency department; primary care practices; surgical services; a breast care center; pulmonary, radiology and rehabilitation services; an orthopedics and sports medicine practice and more. As we continue expanding these essential offerings, this project will add a new space for oncology and infusion services at UM Health-Sparrow Eaton along with other facility improvements that will more effectively accommodate the unique needs of our region.

Infusion Services

The new center will offer a centralized location for oncology, chemotherapy and general, non-oncology infusions (such as those used to treat infections, diet-based illnesses, allergies and more), improving the patient experience. With this new healing space, we can greatly increase our capacity to serve all types of patients in need of infusion care within our community.

Oncology Care

UM Health-Sparrow Charlotte Oncology brings cancer care close to home for those in and around Eaton County, providing direct access to the same highly skilled specialists that care for patients at the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, without needing to travel for care.

Innovative Radiation Technologies

On-site medical oncologists are present to coordinate care for patients, providing access to cutting-edge technology that supports and enhances care delivery: ViewRay radiation technology, with built-in MRI to safely treat tumors in hard-to-reach locations. This machine is one of fewer than 40 of its kind in the country, and we are proud to offer this innovative technology to our Mid-Michigan region.

Facility Renovations

Renovations to create a state-of-the-art comprehensive oncology and infusion center to include separate entrances, dedicated space and a new parking lot.

The Impact

Before this renovation, many patients in our area were required to travel for a variety of procedures. Infusion and oncology patients often require frequent visits for treatment, sometimes with multiple visits per week. By supporting their needs close to home, we will be able to reduce travel times and lost wages for patients and their families.

UM Health-Sparrow Eaton’s new space for oncology and infusion services and associated general improvements will more effectively accommodate this region’s specific needs and rising demand. This facility and its additions will continue to serve as an even stronger, essential link for those in and around southwest Mid-Michigan, cutting down on travel times and improving the experience for those receiving important care. This space will forever improve the health care landscape of our region.
